In April 1949, Yoakum County Hospital opened the doors with nine (9) patient rooms, an operating room, maternity ward and business office. Yoakum County Hospital, operated by Yoakum County was a general short term hospital managed by a Board of Directors. August 1954 saw the expansion of the patient rooms to a 30 bed capacity. 1963 prompted the need to add 11 patient rooms, business offices, laboratory, x-ray, surgery, and labor and delivery rooms.
The addition of an emergency room became a reality in 1973.
After major renovations of all areas in October 1989, Yoakum County Hospital reduced the patient beds from 41 to 24.
West Texas Medical Center was opened in August 2001. The rural health clinic includes 5 physician offices, 14 exam rooms, and 4 procedure rooms.
Yoakum County Hospital Home Health began seeing patients in May 2003.
Dialysis Services of West Texas opened to a new 4, 530 square foot facility.
A major renovation of the Emergency Room, Outpatient Surgery and Birthing Rooms was completed in July 2004.
West Texas Lifestyle & Rehab Center opened their doors in September 2004. West Texas Lifestyle & Rehab offers a new, larger Rehab Department. Lifestyle, the fitness center, has state of the art fitness equipment, weight machines, free weights, elliptical, treadmills, bicycles and more. The center includes a therapy pool, two racquetball courts, and a large assembly room.
West Texas Medical Center Annex opened their doors in August 2006. This 2,508 square foot building was a medical facility for our Pediatrician and a Family Practice physician.
In April 2007, West Texas Medical Center merged with West Texas Medical Center Annex and added three (3) physician offices, 9 patient exam room, and treatments rooms. A renovation also expanded the hospital's Medical Records, Business Office and Administration Departments.
